Collaborative Painting

Painting with friends

A feature of this collaborative effort, will be that it is a part-time project designed to fit into the schedules of people very busy with other pleasures and obligations.

It may feel a little hesitant, but the effort put into the project will be steady and will result in all of us executing this major painting within a few months. It will be a worthy achievement which should lead to us getting bigger and better as we go.

We're breaking new ground here. All aspects of this must be learned from ground up. For instance, at this point I don't see how to address a message to every member. I know other ning networks I'm apart of send messages to everyone, but here, this morning, me looking at it, I don't see how that's done. So, I'm writing this status message in the forum and hope everyone gets the activity update. If you see how to address everyone, please reply, let us all know.

I have about 1 hour per day M-F, with 4 to 6 hours on the weekend to devote to this project. Last weekend, I set up this network, invited about 150 people, got the project started, welcomed all you kind and willing collaborators.

This week, I've been making printable and displayable versions of each of the 100 tiles in this painting. I'll get those uploaded this weekend, we'll be able to move to the selection process where we will choose the tiles we will paint.

After some thought and discussion on the upfront costs of doing this project, I've come to a inexpensive plan fitting the finances available to us. We will ship unstretched canvas to each member in a mailing tube. Finished paintings will be shipped back here where Ruth and I will adhere them to one large unstretched canvas. The large canvas will be strecthed near the first exhibition location.

After having created and exhibited this first project, I expect we will be in a better position to create another project on separate, stretched canvas, if that seems best.

I thank you all for being interested, we have a great group with just the right balance of experience and demonstrated skills. Take a look at your fellow members, say hi, add them as friends, use the blog on your page to let others know who you are and please reply to this or other forum posts with your knowledge and ideas.

I'll report again in two day, on Sunday here in NYC.
