I propose that the first project on this organizing forum be a collaborative painting based on my photo-pano-collage, "
Living by the East River". Because I expect to enlist painters who may live by rivers other than the East, I propose that this project be titled
"Living by the River"

Each of the 100 grid sections in my collage image, will be painted on separate canvasses. Ideally, each of the 100 canvas painted by a different collaborating painter.
When complete, all painters would ship their finished canvas to the exhibition space where they would be hung together make one painting.
All painters would be credited and would share proportionally in any benefit coming from being one of the collaborators of "Living by the River".
I'd like to gather many collaborating painters to this project, but do not expect that, on this first project, I'll be able to get a full compliment of 100 collaborators. Most likely, for this first one, we'll be a few, maybe a dozen, painters who paint several canvasses each.
Are you interested in participating. Can you paint a canvas or two?
Every aspect of this project will be discussed and planned here on the collabpainting network. I favor making the project as simple as possible.
I propose that this first project be organized this way:
As a collaborator, you pick the piece(s) you want to paint. For each piece, you receive a stretched, primed canvas and a study. You paint the piece(s) following the general shapes and tones of the study. You do your best to paint it better than it looks in the print.
You take two photos of each completed piece, first, a clear, color photo of the painted canvas; the second, a photo of you standing in front or beside the canvas. The first photo will be used to create a web display of the project, the second photo documents you as the painter. The photos are uploaded to this
collabpaint network.
You ship the canvas to the exhibition location.
On "Living by the River", I am the leader. It is based on my image, I take responsibility for seeing through the collaborative painting project.
The leader of a collaborative painting project is responsible for suppling the collaborators with the canvasses, studies and for paying all shipping costs. Collaborating painters are responsible for their paint.
When the collaborative painting is sold, the "artist" share received is divided appropriately - the leader receives 40%, the remaining 60% goes to the painters of each of the 100 canvasses, i.e. if you painted one canvas you'd receive one share, with the shares being 60% of artist share divided by 100. (Paint two or more of canvasses, receive two or more shares).
The leader of collaborative painting is credited as leader, all collaborators are credited as collaborators.
A collaborative painting's leader is expected to strive for consensuses on all aesthetic and participation issues, while reserving the right to make final project decisions if consensuses is not reached.
I expect you and each collaborator to be a potential leader of a future collaboration painting project to which, I hope to be invited.
Please use comments on this post or the forum to discuss the issues and to get your questions answered. I hope you'll want to paint with me on this first collaborative painting project.
