Collaborative Painting

Painting with friends

My name is Ray Reynolds and I live in Southampton, England. I am a self employed textile artist and art teacher, mainly teaching adults in the art of feltmaking.

I used to paint a lot, still do a little but would like to paint much more. I tend to paint onto fabric and then cover the painted fabric with stitch.

I am currently working on a series of work called 'City Impressions' which will be exhibited at Harbour Lights Cinema in Southampton at the end of May. The work will be made from handmade felt and stitch.

I would love to organise a piece of work from Collaborative Painting to go up with the exhibition.

Here is my plan:

To have a collaborative painting (in a medium of your choice...in either paint, textiles, mixed media collage, etc) of cities, town and villages from where you live.

Size: postcard size (6 x 4 inches).

Style: The work I am doing is inspired by impressionism so if you would like to compliment the theme by also making an impressionist inspired image that would be great!

Deadline: It would need to be posted to me before the end of April.

I will make sure artists names and contact details are exhibited alongside the picture and also publicise collabpaint.ning.com. Although the images will be part of a group collage, I will sell the pictures individually and post them back if they don't sell.

Here is a link to the cinema and a photo of the gallery space. Let me know if you'd like to be involved!

Thank you very much for the welcome. I will await further instructions about the 'Living by the River' project.

For the project I would like to do I will arrange the pieces as a single piece of work but not sell it as one piece of work. So they will share the same wall space, placed closely together like a collage but will not be joined to each other in any way, then they can be sold separately or returned to the maker.

welcome. glad you're here. we are still gathering our members. in a few days, i'll set up a way for all painters to choose the pieces of "Living by the River" to paint.

Thank you for introducing your project. I will participate, I hope the other painters will also.

To be clear, this collaboration you propose calls for each of us to do a postcard sized painting of a scene from where we live. The paintings will be hung together, but not make up a single image. Is that right?
